The Plaza in front of the Ashland Library is
a gathering place for Ashland residents and visitors to meet, to enjoy
an ice cream cone or cup of coffee, to watch the trains go by or to read
a book. Lovely granite benches, a seat wall and lovely landscaping
combine to make it a wonderful place to be.
An impressive granite globe floats on a fountain of water and is engraved with the continents as well as a star marking "The Center of the Universe" - Ashland, VA! Bronze portraits on The Plaza honor two of Ashland’s finest: J. Malcolm "Jay" Pace, III, who owned and published the Herald-Progress from 1981 until 2004 and among other activities helped produce the Ashland Variety Show; and Nina Kilian Peace, a lawyer and judge who represented Ashland on the Hanover Board of Supervisors from 1975 – 1990. The maintenance of The Plaza and future improvements are funded by the proceeds received from Ashland Street Parties events and from the sale of memorial and commemorative bricks placed on The Plaza walkway. Please consider purchasing a brick for The
Plaza. An order form is available here which can be printed and mailed
in with your check.
Donations to Ashland Street Parties and
The Plaza are tax-deductible as allowed by law. |
